This is a handy calculator that you can use in the field or office to determine the time it will take for a vertical cylindrical tank to drain from one level to another if a leak is developed. Note that the default discharge coefficient used is for a square or sharp edged orifice. Also, the time to drain the tank is based on water or fluids with a similar viscosity to that of water.

How to use this application?

All you have to do is enter the cylindrical tank I.D., the hole/nozzle I.D., the height of the leaks centerline, the discharge coefficient, the initial tank level and the final tank level. When you click the calculate button it will return the time to drain the tank in seconds, minutes and hours. Note the units required are referenced in the application.
